I've always seen summoner as a "support DPS" class, not meant to do the real heavy hits like ranger or masked mage but meant to control the Field and keep the team safe

The tank already has an affect that buffs the whole teams durability in the paladins shield buff

Hooded mage has the ability to heal the whole team

So I think it would be interesting if there was something that boosted the team damage and not just the durability and vitality of the team and I think this is a really organic and cool way to do it

You could even make it post plantera to line up with the rest of the team based buffs

I mean yeah it's both but a summoner can lock down the entire screen with sentries and summons, that sounds like support DPS to me

I like this idea actually. Whip tags are already shared between player minions so this is the next logical step.

Also summoner is an extremely accessory dependant class, giving them this would mean sharply reducing their personal damage, sentry count or summon count

But if it ends up being too broken then you can employ a tag damage reduction like with the blade staff

Right? Literally all other team buffs are based on survivability and this is an organic way of doing it without radically changing the way multiplayer is played

Yeah but the tag might get bogged by things like random bullets or actual summons lol

Obviously things like the striking moment buff and the firecracker would be broken together (especially if it used something dph based like the buster sword) but still LMFAO

This is a cool idea, but I think it would be a balancing nightmare. Weapons that hit rapidly, such the razorpine, crystal bullets, and holy arrows would gain a lot of damage from whip tags. You'd probably need to adjust the accessory to only give a % of the tag damage, but then it might end up feeling too weak if your teammates aren't using rapidly hitting weapons.

The other thing about this item is that you should give it a secondary effect so that it wouldn't be entirely useless in singleplayer. Every item that has a bonus intended for multiplayer has a secondary effect on top of it. Paladin's shield give 6 defence and knockback immunity, spectre hood can heal yourself, and flesh knuckles/putrid scent have decent stat boosts.

Unrelated note I don't think whip stacking is capped, Ichor would help whip stacking as it takes away defense from enemies.

Im all for the idea but I feel like it could get too op at moments. For example fire crackers 3x would combo great with sniper rifles, whip/tag stacking with chain gun would make it do WAY TOO much dps.

it should be nerfed to the extent where it dosen't break the game or make it the new identity of summoners.

Whip stacking used to be capped, since whip tags are considered debuffs. The limit on enemy debuffs used to only be 5, so this effectively capped whip stacking to 3-4 whips. However, the limit was increased to 20, so this isn't a thing any more.

Multiplayer bosses are already hilariously bullWeapons & Equip - An accessory that lets your teammates use your whips summon tag for their own attacks (20) so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to counter with some bullWeapons & Equip - An accessory that lets your teammates use your whips summon tag for their own attacks (21) of your own tbh.

Maybe the extra single player buff this accessory gives you could be extra armor penetration (and maybe also defence) so this accessory could be like a better HM version of the sharktooth necklace in a way.

Also using this with dark harvest sounds fun

People always kinda stacked hercule beetle and necro scroll with papyrus scarab post plantera but this accessory could sort of be swapped around with the necro scroll or hercules beetle to make stuff more interesting.

Summoner is the most supportive class after Tank Melee w/ aggro & paladin shield, since whip tags are shared between players (remember, there is basically no reason to not run support minions no matter the build) and whips also inherently inflict flask debuffs.
