Finding the right college is an exciting, yet overwhelming process for both the student and parents. We visited SLU, among many other schools, after our son was accepted. There are many reasons we chose SLU. First, we had a great meeting during our visit with a professor in our son's major. Him taking the time to meet with us (and on a weekend) demonstrated that professors truly care about students. The campus is beautiful. It has a park like setting within a city with plenty of green space, fountains etc.. . Campus felt welcoming and safe to us from the moment we stepped inside one of the many arches. There's also a nice grocery store along with the Foundry, where students can get snacks for their rooms or a bite to eat. Our son is challenged in his classes, likes his professors, and is having fun! So happy we chose SLU!... 2. #2 Best Colleges with No Application Fee in MissouriCollege of the OzarksPoint Lookout, MO•4 Year•Rating 3.82 out of 5 412 reviewsSophom*ore: Since being enrolled here, I’ve noticed a change in not only my ability to learn but in the way I’m able to grow and mature. Not only does this college help you grow spiritually, they make you understand why it’s important to work for what you want. This college is a working college. Every student is required to work 15 hours weekly to put towards their tuition. This gives students a chance to work for their education without having the stress of paying for it. Although this is helpful, we still have to pay for our room and board as well as books and those aren’t cheap expenses. I would like to see the room and board payment go down so students have a better chance to make the payment deadlines.... I was really happy with all of the remote options for classes because I work night shift. I've really enjoyed school because it's giving me a sense of grounding and security. I also like the consistency of working toward my goals. I've found the content to be super valuable in every day life. I'm learning a lot about myself and gaining new perspectives on how things are. 7. #6 Best Colleges with No Application Fee in MissouriMaryville UniversitySaint Louis, MO•4 Year•Rating 3.99 out of 5 722 reviewsJunior: So far my experience at Maryville University has been pretty great. I have met so many great friends, and this campus has allowed me to reconnect with old friends with it being so close to home. Almost every professor I’ve had has been amazing. I have had two concussions since being here due to athletics and the teachers and disability staff are super accommodating. However, the coaches on the teams (stunt and cheer) I was on dismissed my concussion and used it as an excuse to get mad at me or threaten my spot on the teams—both making me cry on several occasions. The campus/student life is not good in my opinion. There are not a lot of engaging events on campus, no parties nor many events that seem interesting. Bigger schools like mizzou have sororities and fraternities which Maryville lacks in. They should include Greek life into student life, and more people will get involved in campus events. Additionally, there are not many food choices, and sometimes the food is stale or soggy.... The classes and the professors are really good. There are a lot of options for food, including machines to do late-night snacks. There are a lot of different events and if you plan to come go to music and theater events as possible as you can because they are really good, and are a great distraction from studying stress. The honors programs that they have are really good. If you want to challenge yourself and develop your academics you should try to enter it (Especially the Oxbridge program). The people are very kind and understandable and the health department for mental health is very nice. There are a lot of options to work on Campus. I just don't give 5 stars because the CTI classes, the ones everyone needs to do (Core curriculum), most of them, need to get better, but they seem to be working on it.... It was a smaller campus, near downtown Warrensburg which was very quaint. For being a small university, the overall atmosphere was very nice and the buildings were beautiful. I loved being able to walk around campus. Despite there not being a ton to do in the town, I think the school did an overall good job at having many options available for students. I also had a great experience with the professors and think that they were very available and generally cared for their students. Scheduling was easy for the most part- also. I think one of the only complaints I have was that I wished that the library would be open later than midnight! Overall though, I think that the school was wonderful. I would recommend UCM for many different reasons. A great student life, a quaint and small environment, and professors that seem to care for the most part. I have made friends that I will continue to do life with in the years following college. Part of the reason I made these friendships though would have to be because of the atmosphere fostered on campus. The students and faculty are amazing! To be surrounded by a faith-filled community not only has allowed me to build solid relationships but has allowed me to excel in my studies. To connect with people who share a common ground, yet be challenged by what they have built upon their foundation is a unique experience. I am engaging with my academics in a new way. 15. Crowder CollegeNeosho, MO•2 Year•Rating 4.02 out of 5 451 reviewsSophom*ore: I attended Crowder College for almost two years, and overall, it was a positive experience. One of the things I liked the most was the small class sizes, which made it easier to get to know the professors and get personalized help when needed. The campus itself is quite welcoming and has a friendly, community-oriented vibe. The staff were always supportive, and there were plenty of resources available for students, from tutoring centers to career services. However, there are a few areas that could use improvement. The course variety is somewhat limited, especially for more niche or advanced subjects. This sometimes made it challenging to find classes that aligned perfectly with my interests and academic goals. For instance, it was nearly impossible to believe that a typical American University should lag behind time consciousness during certain important programs run by the school despite, the Lecture times being strictly adhered to in most instances.
